Bascom Cleft Lift
Modern off-midline technique that flattens the natal cleft and reshapes the area for permanent cure of pilonidal sinus — low recurrence rate and excellent recovery.
What is Bascom Cleft Lift?
The Bascom Cleft Lift is a modern, off-midline technique for the definitive treatment of pilonidal sinus disease, especially in recurrent or chronic cases. Rather than simply removing the sinus, the procedure reshapes and flattens the deep natal cleft — addressing the underlying cause of recurrence. The wound is closed off-midline with healthy tissue, away from the high-pressure midline area where pilonidal sinuses typically recur. As an experienced female proctologist in Hyderabad, Dr. Tejasree Vengala performs Bascom cleft lift at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, offering one of the lowest recurrence rates among pilonidal procedures.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Marking
Surgery is performed under spinal or general anaesthesia. The natal cleft and sinus tracts are carefully marked while the patient is in position.
Sinus Excision
All sinus tracts and unhealthy tissue are excised completely, with attention to preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
Cleft Reshaping
A flap of healthy tissue is mobilised, and the natal cleft is flattened by reshaping the gluteal contour.
Off-Midline Closure
The skin is closed off-midline, away from the high-pressure central groove, dramatically reducing the chance of recurrence.
Drain & Recovery
A small drain is placed if needed. Most patients are discharged the next day with structured wound care and quick return to routine.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →One of the lowest recurrence rates among pilonidal procedures
- →Addresses the deep natal cleft — the root cause of recurrence
- →Off-midline closure heals significantly faster
- →Excellent option for recurrent and chronic pilonidal disease
- →Quick return to office work in 1–2 weeks
- →Compassionate care by an experienced female proctologist
Pilonidal sinus comes back when the deep midline groove keeps trapping hair and pressure. Cleft lift fixes the geometry of that groove for good — that is why the recurrence rate is so low. It is the operation I trust most for chronic and recurrent disease.
