EPSiT
Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment — a tiny camera is used inside the sinus tract to clean and treat it from within, with no large external wounds and remarkably quick recovery.
What is EPSiT?
EPSiT (Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment) is a modern, minimally invasive technique for pilonidal disease that uses a tiny endoscope inserted directly into the sinus tract. Under high-definition video visualisation, all hair, debris and unhealthy granulation tissue are cleaned, and the tract walls are gently treated with electrocautery — without any large external wound. Dr. Tejasree Vengala performs EPSiT at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, offering a precise, gentle, sphincter-sparing alternative to traditional pilonidal surgery in carefully selected patients.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Equipment Setup
Surgery is performed under spinal or short general anaesthesia. The video endoscope is set up with proper irrigation.
Endoscopic Inspection
A tiny endoscope is gently passed through the sinus opening, providing direct high-definition visualisation of the entire tract.
Hair & Debris Removal
All trapped hair, debris, and granulation tissue are gently removed under direct vision using specialised endoscopic instruments.
Tract Treatment
The walls of the sinus tract are treated with monopolar electrocautery to support healing and prevent recurrence.
Dressing & Recovery
A simple dressing is applied. Most patients are discharged the same day with sitz baths and quick return to office work.
