Polypectomy
Endoscopic removal of polyps from the colon or rectum — performed during colonoscopy through the scope itself, with no cuts and same-day discharge.
What is Polypectomy?
Polypectomy is the endoscopic removal of polyps from the colon or rectum during colonoscopy. Most polyps are removed using a wire snare with electrocautery (snare polypectomy), or with biopsy forceps for very small polyps. The entire procedure is done through the colonoscope itself — no cuts, no abdominal incisions, and same-day discharge. As an experienced proctologist in Hyderabad, Dr. Tejasree Vengala coordinates polypectomy at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, ensuring complete removal and proper biopsy assessment for every polyp.
How the Procedure Works
Bowel Preparation
The bowel is cleansed thoroughly using a prescribed bowel preparation regimen the day before the procedure.
Sedation & Colonoscopy
The procedure is performed under sedation. A flexible colonoscope is gently inserted to inspect the entire colon and rectum.
Polyp Identification
All polyps are identified, their size and characteristics carefully assessed, and high-definition images are documented.
Snare Polypectomy
A wire snare is passed through the scope, the polyp is captured, and electrical current cleanly removes it. Very small polyps may be removed with biopsy forceps.
Specimen Retrieval & Discharge
All polyps are retrieved and sent for histopathology. Patients are observed briefly and discharged the same day.
