Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS)
Specialised foam medication injected under ultrasound guidance to close smaller varicose veins and reticular veins — a quick office procedure with no cuts and minimal downtime.
What is Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS)?
Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS) is a quick, office-based treatment for smaller varicose veins, reticular veins, and recurrent veins after previous surgery. A specialised foam medication is injected under ultrasound guidance into the diseased vein, causing it to collapse and gradually disappear. UGFS is particularly useful for veins not suitable for laser or radiofrequency, and as a finishing touch after EVLA / RFA. Dr. Tejasree Vengala performs UGFS at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, with high precision and excellent cosmetic results.
How the Procedure Works
Doppler Mapping
The diseased veins are precisely mapped using Doppler ultrasound to plan the injection sites and volumes.
Foam Preparation
A specialised sclerosing agent is mixed with air using a closed system to produce a stable foam.
Ultrasound-Guided Injection
The foam is injected directly into the diseased vein under continuous ultrasound visualisation, ensuring safe and precise delivery.
Compression Application
Compression stockings are applied immediately after the procedure to support vein closure and reduce bruising.
Walking & Discharge
Patients walk for 15–20 minutes and are then discharged. Most return to normal activity the same day or next.
