Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
Modern keyhole surgery to remove the diseased gallbladder through 3–4 small incisions — the gold-standard treatment for gallstones, offering minimal pain, quick discharge and a fast return to normal life.
What is Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy?
Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is the gold-standard surgical treatment for symptomatic gallbladder stones, gallbladder polyps, and chronic cholecystitis. The entire diseased gallbladder is removed through 3–4 small keyhole incisions using advanced laparoscopic instruments, with no large abdominal cut. As an experienced laparoscopic surgeon in Hyderabad, Dr. Tejasree Vengala performs laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, offering minimal pain, very small scars, a short hospital stay, and a quick return to normal life. Most patients are discharged within 24 hours and back to office work within a week.
Key Information
Procedure Facts
Standard 4-port or reduced-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anaesthesia.
The gallbladder and stones are sent for routine histopathology examination.
General anaesthesia; procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes.

How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Preparation
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. The abdomen is cleaned and draped, and a urinary catheter is placed if needed.
Port Placement
Three to four small incisions of 5–10 mm are made on the upper abdomen for the camera and working instruments.
Calot's Triangle Dissection
The cystic artery and cystic duct are carefully identified and clipped using the critical view of safety to prevent bile duct injury.
Gallbladder Removal
The gallbladder is gently dissected from the liver bed and removed in a retrieval bag through one of the small incisions.
Closure & Recovery
The small incisions are closed with absorbable sutures and skin glue. Patients usually walk and eat the same evening, with discharge within 24 hours.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Permanent cure for gallstone-related pain and complications
- →3–4 small scars instead of one large open incision
- →Significantly less post-operative pain and quick discharge
- →Allows return to office work within 5–7 days
- →Excellent cosmetic outcome with very small scars
- →Critical view of safety technique to protect the bile duct
Gallbladder surgery is one of the most common operations I do — and yet it always deserves full attention. The critical view of safety, gentle dissection and a calm, unhurried technique are what separate a good outcome from a great one. Patients leave the next day and rarely look back.
