Laparoscopic Appendectomy
Modern keyhole surgery to remove the inflamed appendix through 3 small incisions — the gold-standard treatment for appendicitis, offering minimal pain, quick discharge and very small scars.
What is Laparoscopic Appendectomy?
Laparoscopic Appendectomy is the gold-standard surgical treatment for acute and complicated appendicitis. The inflamed appendix is removed through 3 small keyhole incisions using advanced laparoscopic instruments, with no large abdominal cut. As an experienced laparoscopic surgeon in Hyderabad, Dr. Tejasree Vengala performs urgent laparoscopic appendectomy at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, offering minimal post-operative pain, very small scars, a short hospital stay, and a quick return to normal life. Most patients are discharged within 24–48 hours and back to office work within a week.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Preparation
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. The abdomen is prepared and draped, and IV antibiotics are administered.
Port Placement
Three small incisions of 5–10 mm are made — usually one near the navel for the camera and two for the working instruments.
Appendix Identification
The appendix is gently identified, freed from any adhesions, and the surrounding area is checked for infection or fluid.
Appendix Removal
The appendiceal artery and base are secured with clips or staples, and the appendix is removed through one of the small ports in a retrieval bag.
Washout & Closure
The area is washed if any contamination is present. The small incisions are closed with absorbable sutures and skin glue, and patients usually go home within 24–48 hours.
